Fluffy Dog Wellness - Enhancing Your Dog's Health

I've Been Skunked!

One of our adopters smelt a skunk in the area and wanted to be ready, should their fluffy dog ever get in the way. Please post your suggestions on how to deal with that special odor.

Wellness Corner

One of our Wellness Clients had a wonderful idea to have a spot where people could chat. This is a place where you can post suggestions on how to get all those pills down, foods and treats that you have found that do not contain the nasty (wheat, grain, barley, oats, rice and millet), people food that your dog likes, results you have had or just talk. Enjoy!

Does Your Dog Smile? Send us a photo and we will post it on our blog.

Smiling Jake!

Fluffy Dog Timmy

This is Fluffy Dog Gus... The reason he was so happy... He destroyed his stuffed buddy...
I missed the carnage, and he sat there proudly showing off what he had done..
The least I could do, was take a picture...

Fluffy Dog Lilly-I think it is a Yawn, but definately teeth in there.

Fluffy Dog Harry does not even have to smile to show his teeth.

Fluffy Dog Wellness now sells DNA Breed Identification Kits.

I can't tell you how many times people have asked me what kind of dog Bailey, The Original Fluffy Dog, is. Well, we now know. She is not the doodle that I was searching for, but is a wonderful girl in every way.

37-74% Great Pyrenees
20-36% Weimaraner
10-19% Saint Bernard
Less than 10% Bichon Frise

Keith and Takai from Eau Claire adoped Evan from us and he is now Eddie. He was listed as a Wirehaired Terrier, as most of our dogs are. They purchased a DNA kit from Fluffy Dog Wellness and Eddie really is:

37 - 74% Shih Tzu
20 - 36% Labrador
10 - 19% Saluki  and
10 - 19% Poodle

Kathleen was told that Charlie was a Pug. Yes, he looked like a Pug, but she always thought there was something else under there. She was right. Charlie took the DNA test and is 75% Pug and 25% Shi-Tzu.

I just got the results of Radley's test this week - what a surprise!

20-36% - Italian Greyhound and Poodle
10-19% - Chow Chow
Under 10% - Brittany and Bichon Frise

I thought for sure he'd have more spaniel and some terrier and border collie.  Whatever he is, it's a good combo - such a great dog!

Attached are our results of the DNA test for Mo Cara (my friend in Gaelic/Irish). As you can see he is very mixed, but the cutest/sweetest puppy. We received him from the rescue at either 9 or 10 weeks (they are not sure of his true age as he was rescued with no mother, just a littermate who died). The picture was taken at the rescue shelter at about 7 weeks old, he is about 13 weeks now and thriving. When the rescue obtained him, they felt he was a lab/german shepherd mix, it makes no difference to us and he gets along wonderfully with the lab we already have.

20-36%% DNA: Basset Hound, Boston Terrier, Chihuahua
10-19% DNA: Beagle, Miniature Pinscher
less than 10% DNA: English Springer Spaniel, Dachshund

We got the DNA test back for Karma. What a surprise!

37%-74%        Great Pyrenees
10-19%           Afghan Hound
less than 10% Australian Shepherd and Pug

She is 85 lbs. of beautiful white fluff!

Attached are some photos of Snowball, and here are her results:

Level 2 (37% to 74%):  Great Pyrenees
Level 3 (20% to 36%):  Dachsund (!)
Level 4 (10% to 19%):  Italian Greyhound

We were not at all surprised at the Great Pyrenees.  She has the coat, the face, the really long tail, and the double dew-claws.  And boy, is she affectionate!  She also barks at people walking by, and in the middle of the night if there is the slightest sound.  Snowball is a great guard dog!

The Dachusnd part really surprised us.  That's where she gets her long body and short little legs.  She also stands on her hind legs and sits up on her butt with her front legs in the air, just like a Dachsund does.

Snowball is very gentle and affectionate, and craves attention.  If we are ignoring her, she will jump up on the couch next to us and stare until we pet her.  If we don't, she'll stand in our laps.  You could pet her 23 hours a day and she would demand the 24th hour!  She is very smart and has a good memory.  She knows exactly where we keep her treats, and knows the exact time that she goes for a walk in the morning.  Winter is her favorite season; she loves climbing on top of snowbanks to get a better view.

We are very happy with Snowball and are so glad that she is part of our family!

Tallon is up to 40 lbs now!!
Hard to believe, since he was skin, bones and his fur didnt even cover his whole body when we met!
It's amazing that he is the same dog we adopted- his coat is just beautiful and a wonderful demeanor as well!

His DNA was.... drum roll please....

Springer Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, Yorkie, & Pomeranian!!! Unbelievable!

We received Cricket's DNA results yesterday:

Level 2 Cocker Spaniel  (this is what Dr. K thought she was)  (37-74% of DNA)
Level 4 English Springer Spaniel (springers and cockers were originally part of the same ancestry, so this may be remote)(10-19% DNA)
Level 5 Dachshund (<10%)
Level 5 Pomeranian (<10%)

Still not sure where she got those ears that look like a retriever's but it was fun to see she was mostly Cocker Spaniel.  I also thought she might be some beagle but no traces. It was fun to see the results.

Harry is a Fluffy Dog Alumni

Over 75% Shih Tzu and 20-36% Maltese.

Tucker
20-36% Beagle, Golden Retriever
10-19% American Eskimo, Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier

Clancy
Level 1 Over 75% Labrador Retriever
Level 4 10 - 19% Chinese Shar-pei
When you read the Labrador personality traits it's right on and actually he has a lot of the Shar pei traits also so it's kind of intriguing to say the least !!

Marteenie is:
37-74%: Chow Chow
20-36%: Chinese Sharpei
10-19%: Great Pyrenese
10-19%: Labrador Retriever
Less than 10%: English Setter

Keesha is:
37-74%: English Springer Spaniel
10-19%: Pug
10-19%: German Shorthair Pointer
10-19%: English Setter

Daisy
Level 1 Over 75% Poodle
Level 3 20-36% Chow Chow & Keeshound

Mary
Over 75% Great Pyrenees

Ophelia-Now Coconut from Fluffy Dog Rescue

Wanted to submit Ophelias (Renamed Coconut) results.  We adopted her in April of 2008.  Her birthday is 2-6-08

Had thought she was a Terrier Mix but this is what it was:

20-36% Chihuahua

20-36% English Springer Spaniel

10-19% Border Collie

10-19% English Setter

10-19% Siberian Husky

What a surprise!
